DESCRIPTION: This new 3-story, 173 car precast parking garage was designed to provide parking for the Rockville Courthouse. The foundation system consists of spread footings bearing on rock. The garage was built into an existing hill requiring construction of an extensive retaining wall system. Security concerns of employees were a critical issue in the design of this facility. A security office was constructed to control access into the structure; fencing, lighting, and high visibility were all components provided in the design. The stairwells are constructed of a split-faced block, which provides an attractive facade while keeping costs to a minimum.
