Cost: COST ESTIMATE: $4.5 Million
Macchi Engineers completed the feasibility study (2007) for the reconstruction of the Rainbow Dam Fishway and to improve the passage of diadromous fish including shad migration upstream in the Farmington River. The study included the development and assessment of 3 alternatives of various fishway designs that included the development of conceptual sketches, cost estimates and constructability issues. The options included a Denil retrofit of the existing fish ladder, a fish lift with a monorail return system and a fish lift with an elevated exit flume, which was deemed the best option to move the highest number of fish and meet the requirements of the Farmington River Power Authority who owns the dam.
Macchi Engineers will provide the engineering design and the construction administration and inspection services for the new fish lift and viewing area.
