Lake Wintergreen Dam

Project Highlights

Location: Hamden, CT
Year Completed: 1994
Cost: $1.2 M

The project included hydraulic studies for a new spillway draw down facility, to raise the dam as required, and to design a uniformly sloped earth embankment at the downstream side of the dam. Lake Wintergreen was restored to its historical elevation and the new spillway flow is now controlled for less flow than was occurring through the rock cut notch in the spillway area previously for storms up to a 100-year frequency.

A wetland enhancement program was also implemented at the north cove area of the lake. Due to the increased water level of the lake, many wetland shrubs and trees would not have survived. However, shrubs and trees were transplanted to create a similar wetland environment under the wetland enhancement program.
