DESCRIPTION: The reconstruction of the Lake Mead Dam consisted of increasing the height of the dam to prevent overtopping and the installation of an impervious clay core and toe drains to control seepage. Repairs were made to the spillway by stabilizing the old stone masonry with a concrete casement. An elevated, timber pedestrian bridge was provided over the spillway to provide access for hikers. Stringent construction practices were observed due to the presence of endangered animal and plant species, as well as the project being located in a wildlife sanctuary.
