Lake Garda Dam
Project Highlights
Location: Farmington, CT
Year Completed: 1999
Cost: $300,000
The reconstruction of the Lake Garda Dam consisted of repairs to the earthen dam, spillway and outlet works structure. Toe drains were added at the downstream slope to control seepage and the slope was softened to increase stability and to facilitate maintenance. The spillway was completely rebuilt and relocated to help realign the outflow with the existing downstream channel. A low flow notch was added to the spillway to allow home owners to conduct beach front maintenance during the winter season. Repairs to the outlet works structure consisted of a new gate valve, new outlet piping, an outlet headwall structure with a stilling basin, and a new low profile drawdown chamber. Other features included a timber pedestrian bridge across the spillway and improvements to the nearby beach and parking area.
