DESCRIPTION: Structural design of a new multi-story, steel-framed middle school supported on a spread footing foundation. The school is separated by a series of 2-hour fire walls. Typical roof construction consists of steel framing and metal decking, while roofs over the classroom pods consist of timber trusses and plywood sheathing. The school contains a gymnasium, and an auxiliary gymnasium, auditorium, media center and 3, two-story classroom pods. The roof system over the gymnasiums consists of 3-dimensional steel space trusses supported by steel columns. Lateral systems for the school include moment frames and masonry shear walls.
