DESCRIPTION: The classically inspired brick structure is designed to act as a focal point for the unification and revitalization of the ECSU campus. The structural design of the 5-story, 160,000 SF library can house 500,000 volumes, contain a computer lab, administrative offices; and includes an extensive handicap accessibility ramp and retaining wall system at the main entrance of the building. The project included a separate structure for a 110 ft. high, eccentrically braced, steel clock tower adjacent to the library. The site development component of the library includes a new, 4-lane entrance to Eastern Road with a landscaped median including access drives, civil design of a ½ mile roadway including three at-grade 300+ car parking lots. Project also included the design of new sidewalks, utilities, storm drainage, landscaping, lighting systems and signing. In addition, a storm drainage master plan for the entire campus included a detention basin designed to control the increase in runoff and reduce sedimentation of the nearby wetlands.
